Closets

After work yesterday morning, I made a trip to Hardman Lumber for lumber, siding and a few other miscellaneous items.  When I got home, Deb was putting a final coat of paint on the inside of the kitchen cabinets.

I spent yesterday afternoon framing the partition wall between the master closet and Deb's sewing room.  I ordered a new window for the sewing room but it hasn't come in yet.  I figured I could go ahead and put the partition up and frame in the window after it arrives.

Fortunately, I had enough time to get the wall framed up before we had to leave to go to Lauren's family birthday party.

Today, Deb worked on painting the closet in the sewing room while I reinstalled the tongue and groove, knotty pine I removed before the house was rewired.

It is kind of hard to tell in the picture but this closet was a pale blue.

Now it is a very white, white.

And here is my progress of the weekend.  We have a nearly finished pine wall in the sewing room, complete with two more outlets.

And an almost ready for sheetrock master closet.

Baby steps.

Another weekend has come and gone.  We had a couple of things come up that hindered progress this weekend.  I burned the belt up on the mower deck last weekend and thought I had found a less expensive option to replace the Deere belt.  After fighting with it for an hour or so, and talking to David about it, I realized the belt would not work because it has to be a double v belt.

So, inside we went to install two lights we bought last week.  As I was removing the light for the hallway from the box, the globe shattered in my hand.  Before heading to Hot Springs to exchange it we went ahead and installed the bathroom light to make sure there were no problems with it.

Back hallway light.  13" integrated LED.

Bathroom light.  12.8" integrated LED

On the way back from Hot Springs we found out Deb's Grandpa had a spell that morning and was at the hospital in Stuttgart being prepped to be transported to Big Baptist in Little Rock.  So we got the replacement hallway light installed and off to Little Rock we went to meet up with her family at the hospital.

Sunday, Deb headed back to Little Rock.  Grandpa was doing better so I stayed home and worked some.  After finishing up cleaning the walls in the sewing room and vacuuming the wood shavings from the rewiring job, I looked at the area of wall we were planning to put the closet door from the master bedroom and decided I might as well go ahead and knock the fire blocks out.

As I was removing the nails from the studs, I noticed the studs I needed to remove were easy to move around and obviously weren't supporting much (if any) weight.  So I threw caution to the wind and went ahead and removed them and cut out the door.

Boy, was it hard (emotionally) to cut through that old knotty pine, but in the end it had to be done.  We had thought most of the doors in the house were 32" but upon closer inspection (and using a tape measure) I concluded they were mostly 30" doors.  So I Googled the dimensions to rough in for a 30" prehung door and went ahead and roughed in the frame work.  I was able to reuse both 2 x 4's and had some sandwiched 2 x 4's from the wall we took out of the living/dining room which I used for the header.  In the end, I only needed one new 2 x 4 to frame the door.

The light for the half bath came in Monday and we installed it last night.

More LED bulbs.  I'm pretty sure we can run most of the lights in this house for about the same price as a couple of rooms in most homes.

Outside and property views.

It dawned on me last week that the only picture of the place we have posted is with snow on the ground and a roll off dumpster in the driveway.  So after mowing Sunday I took a few shots.

I figured since I put pictures of Deb in the sink, I might as well show off my own flubs.  Here I am getting started mowing in my sexy $4.00 camo hat and work gloves.  I forgot the sunscreen (Deb swears she told me to put some on) so I have nice red knees and forearms.

And here is where I got the mower stuck on the second pass.  Yes, the second pass.  Now everyone can laugh at Corey.  And don't anyone let Deb tell you I got stuck twice, because she doesn't have any photographic evidence of the second alleged lack of traction incident.

Enough of my nonsense,  here come the outside pictures.

I personally think we bought a nice house with some spectacular oak trees to boot.

This shot and the one above are from the NE corner of the property.

Here are some shots from Richwoods Road at the main driveway.

Front yard, looking west from driveway.

The ice and snow left some limbs down and the weather hasn't cooperated enough for us to get outside and pick them all up to burn them.  The chimney on the back of the house is going to come down and we will be putting an outside door in its place.  It currently is in our future master bedroom.

Hopefully, once we are settled in, we can connect the back porch to the future bedroom outside door with a treated wood deck.

Oh yeah,  not everyone has deer tracks 75 feet from their back porch...

Toiling on and filling a sink.

Not really much of a story today.  I worked on straightening up the pantry (I guess we can call it that for now).  It's really a closet in the "man cave" that has an outside door that was sticking pretty badly.  I worked on that too.  It is opening and closing much better now.  The rest of the time, I was up and down the ladder as I continued to clean the beams.  Deb spent the day taping and painting the inside of the cabinets in the kitchen.  They are looking great.

We have a nice little surprise for the light in the cabinet over the sink.  I just have to build it.

While painting around the light over the sink, she lost her balance and in she went!  LOL!

Here are some shots of our lighting choices.

Hall light

We bought 3 of these.  One for each of the front bedrooms and one for the sewing room.

Here is the light that will be in our closet when we get the wall built.

Track lights in the kitchen.

Hardwired LED lights in vent hood.

LED strip light over sink.  I was really pleasantly surprised at how much light this little dude puts out.

We bought two of these fans probably 10 years ago.  Found an LED light kit at Lowes that fits nicely.  This one is in the future master bedroom.  Now to get blades to fit the fans.

Here is the other one in the living room.  We are considering getting another one of the LED light kits for this one as well.
